Theater Camp - "Cirque d'Orcas"

Continuing last year's circus theme, the 2008 Theater Camp will feature teaching artists from the thrilling DREAM SCIENCE CIRCUS, which appeared on the Orcas Center stage during the 2007 Kids' Fest. High flying (in a VERY SAFE manner) circus skills will be taught, as will perseverance, team work, self-confidence and just plain fun!
All participants are eligible to join a procession in the Historical Day Parade as well as a CenterStage performance on July 5 at 7:30 pm.
Cirque d'Orcas is offered to teens and children ages 5+ through a partnership between Orcas Center and Orcas Island Recreation Program.

Theater Instructor Bios
About Ukoiya: Ukoiya grew up in the Pacific Northwest San Juan islands. From a young age she had a wild imagination. and a passion for movement, theater and self expression. Her studies in dance include Middle Eastern dance, East African, Hip Hop and Modern Improvisational. Today Ukoiya works fulltime as a performer, costume designer and company manager. When she is not on stage she is empowering others through education in circus arts. Ukoiya has helped develop physical educational programs for Whatcom Hills Waldorf and a specialized circus arts curriculum for Wellspring High school in Bellingham. She has also recently completed her certified through I.S.S.A as a personal trainer. It is her intention to share her experience and talents with others for many years to come.
About Islando: Islando grew up in the Puget Sound of Washington state.He has traveled to many places and has worked with fire dancing, capoeira (a Brazilian acrobatic dance/martial art), stunt work, and many other innovative performance aspirations. Islando has dedicated his life to bringing fresh ideas and inspiration to the performing arts while incorporating cultural influences from around the world. It is his passion as a performer to always look for new opportunities to train and enhance his performance skills and experience. His special skills include: costume design and production, construction (design, engineering, and contracting), stage dancing, stunt work, music composition and performance (drums, percussion, sitar), pyrotechnics, acrobalance, dancing, stilt walking, mountain biking, rock climbing, snowboarding, aerial hoop, aerial tissue, trapeze, aquatic and boating skills, improvisational acting, stilt theater, Brazilian capoeira, and yoga.
